Here are fifteen of the most interesting things I found out from my journey into the world of Fifty Shades of Grey.

If nothing else, the behind-the-scenes dirt on this series is actually really interesting, to the point where I wouldn't mind seeing a movie about the making of these movies. While I wish more than anything that the story that transcended the fan fiction community wasn't Fifty Shades of Grey, I'm willing to accept that this is the world I live in. I can also appreciate a series written by a woman garnering massive levels of success, especially from a fanfic. While the series itself might not be my cup of tea, I can appreciate a series that gets generations of women reading. This led me to go and find out more about the Fifty Shades series. Strangely, Fifty Shades Darker was a better movie because it didn't take itself quite so seriously. I didn't think twice about this series until Fifty Shades Darker came out, and I was again dragged to go see it. Not only was it bad, it was bad because it was boring, which is not what you'd expect from a movie about a red room of pain. The first movie was a lesson in movie hell for me. I even sat down to watch the first movie after I was dragged to go see it.

Personally, I don't really understand the hype. James wrote her magnum opus Twilight fan fiction and published it under the name Fifty Shades of Grey, renaming Bella and Edward Ana and Christian, women of all ages have been all about this series. This series blew up the minute it got published, and with one more movie on the way, the Fifty Shades madness shows no signs of slowing down. Still, Mehr attributes the phenomenal rise more to the improving economy and Seattle's rising popularity than the book. Only six apartments remain unsold in the building. San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum owned one of the "sub penthouses," but he sold it earlier this year. Escala has had as many as three Major League Baseball players as residents. A family from Oregon bought it in 2013 for $6.2 million.īut the building does have some famous people with ties to the building. The most expensive penthouse at Escala doesn't have a red room. For example, there isn't a helicopter landing pad on the roof. James heard about Escala, which was completed in 2009, and wove it into her story, although she did take a number of liberties. "I don't think they realize that this is a condominium building that residents live in and there is no red room."Į.L. "Our silly phone calls have spiked again where people want to rent the room," Mehr told CNNMoney. It's overwhelmingly women ages 19 to 50 that call Mehr's firm, begging to spend a night or two in the famous penthouse or, at least, get their photo somewhere in the building.
